Choosing a Lamp Stand That Holds the Fixture Safely

Adjustable Reptile Lamp Stand — 16-31 Inch Floor Bracket with Stable Base

A lamp stand is a small piece of hardware carrying a hot fixture over a living animal, which makes stability the only specification that really matters.

Reach and counterweight

The further the arm extends, the more leverage there is at the base. A stand that feels solid with the arm retracted can be tippy fully extended. Position the base so the weight of the fixture sits over it rather than beyond it.

Height adjustment is a heat control

Raising and lowering the lamp is how you tune basking temperature without changing the bulb. An adjustable stand is worth more than a fixed one for exactly this reason — but it only helps if the clamp holds position reliably once set.

Clearance

Keep the fixture far enough from mesh, cables and décor that nothing can contact the hot housing. Check clearance again after you rearrange the enclosure, which is when most problems appear.

Cable management

Route the cable so it cannot be pulled by a passing hand or by the animal. A drip loop below the fixture keeps any condensation running away from the socket.
